About Me
- Shiloh Springs
- Welcome to the Shiloh Springs Golf Club blog. I am starting this as an information center for golfers interested in keeping up with everything that is Shiloh. The plan as of now is to update this blog once a week (on Mondays) with information about events, golf course maintenance updates, game improvment tips, food and beverage news and general thoughts from an aging golf professional. I hope this site will be entertaining as well as informational. It will include pictures and the whole works. As you follow this blog please don't be shy in sharing your thoughts with me the next time we meet. Until then.... Think Golf, Brian Silcott, PGA Golf Professional Shiloh Springs Golf Club

Shiloh Summer Report
Wow! has the summer gone by fast! It is already August and we still have not had any really hot weather. The Royals stink (again), the Chiefs are in camp and 3 major golf championships have already been played. Play is up for the year here at Shiloh and the Summer League is in its play offs. Fall League starts August 25 and the Tournament of Champions is right around the corner (September 13). We invite you to enjoy all the golf you can before the fall activities start.

Driving Range Update
Last week (Tuesday, July 7) the sod was laided on the Warm Up Range hitting area. After reshaping and installing some drains, Mike's crew put down the new zoysia sod on the range. It looks great and should be ready to hit off of sometime in the next couple of weeks. This week they will be laying sod in the surrounding areas around the range. When all the work is complete and the grass is grown in the range will be the best it has ever been. Along with this work the area in front of 17 green has been reshaped and drains installed. This area has also been sodded and it is a very nice upgrade to the hole. If all goes according to plan we will have a wonderful and playable approach area in front of 17 green.
A nice by product of this work is that we had extra sod left over. Mike and his boys have been using the extra sod to repair the damaged areas in 17 fairway. What once was one of our weaker fairways will now be one of our better fairways.
The crew is also upgrading each holes area around the tee box that has the ball washer and tee sign. The are repositioning some signs and ball washers and putting down mulch to each area. The look is very appealling and has a nice visual effect.
As always we are committed at Shiloh to continually upgrading our facility.

Shiloh Springs adds Senior Tees
Shiloh Springs is happy to announce that we have added an additional set of senior tee markers on all our holes. We invite you to try the course from these tees and give us your feedback as to how you like them. At the end of this trail period we will make a decision as to whether we will add these tees markers to our next scorecard printing and have the Kansas City Golf Association come out to the course and rate these tees so we can use them for handicap purposes.
On a personal note I would like to thank all of you that kept my wife in their thoughts and prayers while she was going through her recent illness. I am happy to report that she is minus one gallbladder but recovering nicely and should be back to full strength in a week or two.

GOLF COURSE ACTIVITIES IN FULL SWING!
It is a great time of year to be a golfer! The courses are in great shape and the weather is wonderful (minus the storms). Activities are in full swing at Shiloh Springs. We are half way through the Men's League, Ladies League just started, Men's Match Play is going on and Junior Golf starts in a couple of weeks. When the weather has cooperated we have had a lot of families take advantage of the Family Fun Nights on Sundays and we have a large number of golfers who through golf lessons and practise, improving their golf games. Don't get caught on the sidelines, get your clubs out and get in the game!
Just wanted to include an update on the driving range tee. We are busy shaping and installing drainage on the grass portion of the tee area. When that work is complete we will be sodding zoysia grass. When that grass has a chance to mature we will be open for play on that part of the tee. When completed it will be a very nice addition to our facility. (Can you tell I am excited!)

Golf Range to be sodded soon.
Driving range to be sodded soon.
Even though it is very nice to be able to hit practice balls off our hi-tech athletic turf tee, I know alot of you are looking forward to getting back to real grass on the driving range. That day is comming sooner than later. We get the sod from a grass farm in Oklahoma and we needed to wait until it came out of its dormat stage to cut it and ship it to Missouri. That will happen soon and while we wait you will see, in the near future, our grounds crew working to re-shape the dirt on the tee area so we will not have the drainage problems that we experienced in the past. So now you have the scoop on the driving range tee.

News for the week of April 13 - 19
April 18th Saturday Men's Association Winners.
I would like to congratulate the winning team from this past Saturday's Men's event.
Bobby Crockett, Pat Cockrill and Mike Borylo. Way to go guys!!! All of them have now qualified for the year end Tournament of Champions!
I would also like to give props to our on course contest winners for the day:
Long Putt on #4 - Ken Austin & Closest to the Pin on #18 - Frank Canino III
Wednesday Ladies league sign up starts April 20.
Today starts the sign up for our Wednesday Ladies league that begins on May 13. This league is designed for all ladies (beginners through established golfers) who would like to meet other ladies and have an enjoyable evening of golf and fun. To get the league kicked off to a rousing start we offer two free clinic nights. The first is April 29 and the second is May 6. Both nights start at 6:00 p.m. and are open to the public. You don't even need to sign up.... just show up with your clubs. We have had lots of interest this season about our ladies league so I am hoping we will continue to grow in numbers.
Men's Match Play Championship is right around the corner.
The Shiloh Springs Golf Club Men's Match Play Championship is to start the week of May 4. Currently we have 3 spots still available. If you are interested in signing up just call the golf shop. The only requirement is that you have a USGA handicap at Shiloh and you have posted at least 3 scores this season.
Golf Companies offer incentives!
It looks like the golf companies are trying to make is easy for you to buy some new equipment. I just received information from Callaway today with an offer. If you buy a new Callaway driver you get a Callaway fairway wood for $1. That is quite a deal. They are offering that now through May 31.
I don't have all the information but I hear through the grapevine that Cleveland is offering two round trip airline tickets and two golf rounds for customers who spend $500 of more. I will investigate this further because my mother always told me "if it sounds to good to be true it's probably not true". Look for an update on this next week.
Till next week....Think Golf!

Brian & Pam go to the food show.
On March 18th Pam and I took off early in the morning heading for Emporia, Kansas. Our food supplier was hosting their annual food show. For those of you who have never been to a food show (which I was one) basically it is an entire arena floor with booth after booth of food samples. Anything you could think of was there being prepared to sample by the buyers. Pam and I go each year to find a few new items to add to the grill menu to keep it fresh and updated. This year we added kettle fried chips, and most exciting was a Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich. It is all prepared fresh and cooked to order. Next time you are hankering for something other than the burger or dog thing, try our new Philly Cheese Steak and let us know what you think.
